Uniforms

Sunrise and Wind Symphony dresses MUST BE HEMMED before performance.  Failure to do so is considered inappropriate concert dress and students grades will be deducted accordingly.  Please hem the dresses so that they touch the tops of your shoes.  You may cut excess material, but please leave four inches of material so that dresses may be let out in future years.

PERMISSION SLIPS

When distributed, permission slips are posted online and available in the band room.  All permission slips are required for students to participate in field trips. ALL PERMISSION SLIPS ARE DUE ON THE DUE DATE. PERMISSION SLIPS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED ON THE DAY OF A FIELD TRIP.  The Band Department is required to turn copies of permission slips into the office prior to the trip. Therefore, the attendance office will have no record of the student if the slip is turned in the day of a trip.  The Band Department will post a list of every student who has turned in their permission slip 3 days prior to the trip so that students may check for any errors.  Do NOT assume that because you turned it in, your name has made it onto the list.  ALWAYS check to make sure.  It is the student’s responsibility to check this list so the appropriate actions may be taken.

PRIVATE LESSONS

Students registered for all bands classes are strongly encouraged to participate in private lessons. Students may take private lessons at Bolingbrook High School during their scheduled band class time only if the lesson is for the instrument they are assigned to play in that class.  Otherwise, students should secure lesson time during their homeroom, study hall class time, after school hours, at the instructor’s studio, or during a class the private instruction is intended for.  Any deviation from this policy must receive permission from the student’s director.  Each private instructor for the band department will provide the band department with a list of students and scheduled lesson times.

**ROTATIONS ONLY APPLY TO WIND SYMPHONY/SUNRISE SINGERS STUDENTS

ROTATION POLICIES FOR WIND SYMPHONY

Wind Symphony and Sunrise Singers have a unique relationship of rotating some students between the two groups during ZERO HOUR class time.  During the 2006-2007, only those students who were selected to participate in both Wind Symphony and Sunrise Singers during the 2005-2006 school year will be permitted to rotate between the two classes.  Students must follow the weekly rotation schedule and may only deviate from that schedule with both choral and band director agreement.  Because of the nature of sharing students, the following policy has been developed.

ROTATION AND UNEXCUSED ABSENCES (Wind Symphony only)

If students are absent three times from the zero hour class time within the course of the semester, rotation privileges will be lost and students must attend only the class for which they are registered.   All discipline actions will occur as described in the Bolingbrook High School handbook.  Additionally, all class participation points will be lost for the classes missed.

ROTATION AND UNEXCUSED TARDIES (Wind Symphony only)

Students are expected to be in their seats and ready to play when the 6:35AM bell rings.  Students should arrive early to get their instruments from their lockers and rehearsal ready.  Should a student not be ready to rehearse at 6:35AM, policies for being tardy will be followed as described in the Bolingbrook High School Student Handbook.  Additionally, some class participation points will be lost for the rehearsal.  Within a semester, five tardies will result in a Rotation Privilege loss. Students will then be required to attend ONLY the class that they are registered for and will no longer have the privilege of rotation.
