Welcome to the Bernard J. Ward Elementary School
webpage. Ward Elementary opened in August 2004 as the twelfth elementary
school in the Valley View School District. Our school is one of the five
bilingual elementary attendance centers in Valley View School District
serving our diverse population. Some of our website visitors may
remember Ward as a middle school for 29 years, beginning in 1975. In
fact some of our parents are former Ward Middle School students!
B.J. Ward Elementary has three main goals: improve
reading and writing achievement, improve mathematics achievement, and
provide a safe and orderly learning environment. Results on the Illinois
Standards Achievement Tests (ISAT) and the Illinois Measure of Academic
Growth indicate continued increases in student achievement at Ward.
Guided reading and writing instruction contribute to student success in
literacy skills. Mathematics instruction targets progress in number
sense, measurement, algebraic concepts, geometry, and probability.
Parents are encouraged to regularly contact their child(ren)’s teacher
for a progress report.
Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (P.B.I.S.) is
the school-wide discipline program designed to teach expected behavior
in the school setting. Students earn ReWard dollars (play money) for
following the school rules to purchase items from the ReWard Store.
P.B.I.S. helps students make wise choices and contributes to a safe and
orderly learning environment.
Our staff is dedicated to teaching and supporting your
child(ren). You are encouraged to continually monitor their progress
through ensuring your child(ren) complete their homework and attend
regularly. The closer we work together the greater the benefits for your
child(ren).
I hope you visit the page often to learn more about our
school. Also, check the School Report Card page for more information on
student achievement at Ward.
Please feel free to contact the office (630)972-9200.
Your questions and concerns are welcomed.
Sincerely,
Meda K. Thompson, Ph.D.
