6th, 7th, and 8th Grade Band
Procedures
What you need for class daily:
- Your instrument
- Music in a band folder with your name on the music and folder
- A pencil in your folder
- All your supplies i.e. 3 good reeds, valve oil, sticks, slide oil,
cleaning swab, polishing cloth, etc.
- A school lock for your band locker
- Daily planner/handbook
- Scale sheets/Rhythm Packets
How your grade will be determined:
- Students playing ability (Playing tests)
- Self discipline
- Written tests
- Attendance at all required rehearsals and concerts
- Practice Records (2 ½ hours on a weekly basis with parents signature)
- Contribution to the ensemble on a daily basis
This grade is determined by 50% written/playing tests, 25%
participation, and 25% practice records.
Lost and Found:
We are not responsible for lost items. Check the lost and found
in the band room if you are missing anything. Then, look in the office’s lost
and found.
Payment:
All payments must be submitted in an envelope with your name on
it, what you are paying for, the amount enclosed. This envelope should be placed
in the band mailbox. Checks should be written to Brooks Band or exact change
only.
Rules for the classroom:
- Be respectful to all fellow band members/adults.
- Listen to band parents when they speak to you and give directions.
- Follow directions the first time they are given.
- Do not play out of turn.
- Keep your hands, feet, and other objects to yourself.
- When entering the classroom you have 3 minutes to be prepared and in
your seat.
- Respect the property of the school.
- No gum, pop, or food allowed in the band room.
- After putting your instrument away you must return to your seat or you
will not be dismissed.
- Use appropriate language at all times.
- All payments must be paid when due.
- Don’t touch the drum equipment without permission.
- No one in the band room except band students.
- Be on time to class.
Consequences:
- Verbal warning
- Writing assignments/conference with the student
- Call home to the parents/personal conference with parents if needed
- Teacher’s detention
- Dean’s Detention
- Dean’s referral/suspension depending on the severity of the problem
- Possible removal from band
