Dear Parents,

As spring approaches and the outdoor activities begin to increase we want to encourage you to get out and enjoy the nicer weather with your children. The spring season is a great time to do some family fitness, riding bicycles or taking a nice walk. This is also the time of year when kids begin riding their bicycles to school again. I would appreciate if you would remind your children of our expectations for bicycle safety. Students who are eligible for bus riding are not allowed to ride their bikes to school. The fact that they live in an area deemed in need of bus transportation signals there are some unsafe crossings. Those who do live within walking distance should remember to ride safely on the sidewalks or near the curb on the street. All students have to walk their bikes once they reach school grounds, whether they approach from the West or the East. In addition, it is extremely important that they secure their bikes with a quality lock. This discourages theft.

Although the nice weather is here, we continue to have many important lessons to teach to your children, and that means that homework will continue. Having five children of my own I understand how baseball, softball, soccer and scouts can creep into play, however it is very important that the children continue to complete their homework assignments. Please maintain contact with the teachers to make sure homework is not a developing issue. Reading is still very important for each child to practice each night. We have some great incentive programs such as the Ozzie Reading Club. Children who complete this program can earn a free ticket to a Kane County Cougars game. Please encourage your child to participate.

Finally, I would like to continue to request your help in making Skoff School the safest school possible. Please remind your children, as we do everyday, that school is a place to learn. We ask our students to follow three main expectations, to be respectful, to be responsible, and to be safe. As long as we continue to work together as a team, we can help all of our Skoff Titans to be as successful as possible!
