BEE BOOK

Bring Everything Everyday

The BEE FOLDER is a folder that your child will use everyday to develop organizational skills and learn to become responsible for returning items daily.  Second grade continues the foundations built during the first two years, and it is important to teach children how to keep up with communications between home and school.  This folder is a way of helping your child be accountable for those communications.  The focus is to eliminate lost notes, newsletters, important events and academic progress.

Your child will have homework Monday-Thursday.  Assigned homework could include worksheets to review skills that have been learned, weekly spelling lists, or a story from our reading series.  Homework in the second grade is primarily developing responsibility in our children.  They are responsible for bringing home the assignment, complete it with a parent's guidance, and then return it.  The assignments given should take 20-30 minutes to complete.  If your child should experience difficulty completing an assignment please inform me via a note or a phone call.  Always check your child's work and sign their homework sheet.  Unless otherwise specified, homework is due the following school day.  Parents often wonder, "Should I correct my child's mistakes?  How will the teacher know he/she is having a problem?"  My advice is, yes, point out the mistakes to your child in a gentle way, and use that opportunity to reteach and clarify the skill.  If you would like me to know about a particular problem area, jot it down on the homework, and I'll respond as soon as possible.
