Please help your child memorize their basic addition and subtraction facts. I find it is best to have children learn facts in families.  For example:

5+6= 11

6+5= 11

11-5= 6

11-6=5

The fact family is 5, 6, 11

A+ Math is a good web site to practice facts.

Math Tips

Start small.  Start with the easier facts first and move up to the more difficult. 

Offer help and avoid struggle.  If your child does not know an answer by the time you count to 5, tell them the answer by the answer and have them repeat the entire math fact to you.

Keep sessions short.  Repeating something 3-4 times in short fun sessions get better results than 1 long session.

Make it fun!  Try games.
