Welcome to the Irene King Elementary School web site. As you browse our web site, you will find links to pages that will provide you with information about our school, the general calendar and school hours, our PTO, and teacher web pages.

Irene King Elementary School has been serving the community of Romeoville for four decades. Our mission statement reflects the beliefs of our staff:

The entire staff of Irene King School accepts the responsibility for educating all students, regardless of background and ability, in the essential skills and knowledge needed to achieve their highest intellectual potential. We will provide a learning environment that will encourage growth in social and emotional behaviors and attitudes, thus enabling the students to take their place in an ever-changing world.

Complementing the mission statement is our vision:

We are a community of life-long learners who have skill, confidence, and determination to excel in our rapidly changing world.  We are actively involved in creating a supportive, safe environment that brings out the best in everyone.

We also provide enrichment to those students who need additional challenges, remediation for those times when a student does not understand a concept, and many opportunities for our students to develop their natural talents.  However, we do not do this alone.  Schools can only do so much.  The ultimate responsibility for the child's upbringing is the home.  Therefore, the staff and parents all work together to ensure the best possible future for our youngsters.  We do this through consistent commitment and communication.

Our school organization consists of sessions of half-day Kindergarten, as well as grades one through five. Our staff of dedicated and experienced professionals provides a positive and supportive environment for our approximately 700 students. Our staff continually models our expectations for life-long learning by participating in workshops and course work to update and enhance their own professional skills.

Our PTO represents the many parents, guardians, and volunteers making up the family of Irene King. We feel our parents are an integral part of Irene King. The PTO provides support of the various programs for students including Santa’s Secret Shop, Book Fair, assemblies, field trips, and field day.

Irene King Elementary School is fully accredited by the Illinois Department of Education. We are excited about the unlimited possibilities that we have here at Irene King Elementary School, are extremely proud of the accomplishments of our students and staff, and we hope that you enjoy your visit to our web pages.
