4th Quarter Goals and Skills
We will be working on the following skills for the next report card.

Reading
§ Letters: Meets goal is ALL 52 letters
§ Sounds: Meets goal is 16-21 consonant sounds
§ Tracking print from left to right while reading
§ Telling a story with beginning, middle, and ending
§ Identifying sight words in sentences- ex: Find the word “the” in the sentence.
§ Sight word identification: Meets goal is 32-40 of all words from the entire list...We
work on sight word identification DAILY!
§ Rhyming- tell whether two words rhyme or not AND be able to supply a word that
rhymes with a given word
Writing
§ Using letter sounds to spell words
We encourage “invented spelling”- Children should write words how they “hear” them. Please do not spell words for your child; instead ask them what sounds they hear.
§ Writing sentences with 2-3 words, using letter sounds to spell the words
§ Writing sentences using ALL mechanics correctly: a capital letter for the 1st letter only,
spaces between words, and periods at the end of sentences.
Math
§ Shape identification
§ Positional/Comparative words: above below like different more less equal LEFT RIGHT
§ Attributes/sorting: by color, shape, and size AND tell how groups of objects are sorted
§ Patterns: Identify, create, and extend AB, ABB, and ABC patterns
§ Orally counting to 100, without skipping ANY numbers
§ Touch counting objects to 20
§ Identify numbers to 0-20 in random order
§ Write numbers 0-20 IN ORDER
§ Match sets of objects to correct number for 0-20
§ Identify AND name the coins: penny, nickel, and dime
