Encourage your child to sound out words on their own.
AFTER your child is finished, you may "translate" it somewhere on the
page- IF it’s okay with your child! Please emphasize that you are not doing
this because they did it wrong, but so that we can remember what they wrote.
Their writing is special and any way they do it is right!
Date each entry--You can teach your child to do this, too! This will
help monitor progress!
Remember that writing is meant to be fun- not corrected or
graded!
Praise all writing efforts…even if you can’t "read" it!
Pencils are best, since they can be erased.
They are less frustrating for emerging writers. But for
a fun twist, when your child is ready, use color pencils, pen, even
colored paper or fun stationary!
Children’s Guidelines:
Sound out the words by yourself.
Write the beginning and ending (and even middle) sounds you hear in the
words.
Start sentences with a capital letter and then use all lowercase
letters.
