LMC News
It has been a beautiful new beginning for our Independence Library Media Center. Our students eagerly awaited the unveiling of our all NEW AND IMPROVED LMC. Our library has new carpeting, furniture, shelving, as well as many new books. Students have given the new look of the library rave reviews.
All classes have started checking out books; we have discussed taking care of the books and returning books to school on or before their library day. I hope that you will enjoy reading with your children as often as you can. Reading together with your child/children is such a wonderful family time – the best “quality-time” you can spend. Discovering the world of reading opens up new adventures and discoveries; your child/children are all eager to learn about our world.
I am working with the students to help them learn how use all of the resources in the LMC and how to find their favorite fiction and non-fiction books independently. Our students are proud when they master locating the books they want to find on their own.
This year I will initiate a Family Literacy Program. We have acquired many new informational bilingual books for our students to share with their families at home. I will be sending out information about this program soon. The books are so beautiful and interesting that I know our students and families will enjoy reading them to gain both growth in reading and learning information about many interesting topics.
I want to encourage all students to get a Fountaindale library card if they do not yet have one. Our public libraries offer great books as well as many special programs for children; best of all – it’s free!
Our computer lab will open soon. I’m looking forward to helping our students discover everything they can learn while using technology.
Reading everyday is a wonderful way to always be a lifelong learner. I hope that you and your Independence students give yourself that daily gift.
