Hello! I am the Speech
Pathologist at Jaime McGee. I am here everyday this year. I
work on speech sound skills, verbal language skills and
helping children speak smoothly.
At home you can encourage
correct speech habits by occasionally correcting incorrect
sounds. Speak clearly to your child. Model or show them how
the sound is made.
You can increase language
skills through continually questioning children so that they
learn to understand questions and solve problems. You can
play the category game anywhere which is everyone taking
turns naming something in a category that you pick. Have
children define what words mean or tell you how two things
are the same or different. Vary your own vocabulary so that
they learn more vocabulary.
To encourage your child to
speak smoothly give them all the time they need to explain
something. Ask them to slow down because children often
stutter because they have so much to say and can’t get it
all out at once. Don’t bring too much attention to it. Many
children go through a stuttering phase and will out grow it.
You can always contact me here
at school via e-mail or phone if you have any questions.
