BEHAVIORAL EXPECTATIONS FOR MR. HOOPER’S CLASS

Morning Expectations

*Greet teacher at the door and enter quietly.

*Put lunch token in proper bowl: cold, main, or alternate.

*Unpack belongings at desk. Hang up book bag and jacket.

*Put lunch money in an envelope with name and class written, place envelope in the orange bag, and place bag on floor outside the door.

*Place cold lunches in gray basket.

*Head back to desk and follow directions on overhead.

Listening and Speaking Expectations

*Allow one person to speak at a time and focus attention on speaker.

*Raise hand and wait to be called for whole-class discussions.

*When the teacher is with an individual or small group, please do not interrupt unless it is an emergency. Find a time to speak with them during a break or when they are not with anyone.

*Follow voice volume expectations: 0 – silent; 1 – whisper; 2 – conversation; 3 – presenter.

*Follow silence signal: "3 – 2 – 1 – 0" will be called. By "0," there should be silence.

Lining Up Expectations

*Walk towards front of room quietly.

*Form a boys’ and girls’ line. Form one line for lunch and in fire emergencies.

*Use personal space.

Break Expectations

*Break options: read, write, draw, finish homework, stretch next to desk, sit and talk to neighbors.

*Take a hall pass if a bathroom break is necessary. Follow bathroom expectations.

*If a snack break, garbage and crumbs should be thrown away.

*The best time to sharpen pencils is at a break.

*The best time to get Kleenex is at a break.

*When timer dings, get quiet and be ready for the next activity.

End of Day Expectations

*Copy assignments from assignment sheet to student handbook.

*Find an assignment book (A.B) checker to initial assignment book.

*Pack up book bag with materials needed for home.

*Organize desk.

*Carefully put chair on desk.

*Pick up ten pieces of garbage off floor.

Classroom Library Expectations

*Use two hands to take bins off shelves or ask for help.

*While searching through bins, leave books organized.

*Put bins back on shelf with genre labels facing out.

*When returning a book, put the book back according to the genre code found in the bottom right corner of the book.

Health Emergency Expectations

*If you are feeling sick or are hurt, ask a teacher to fill out a health pass before going to nurse. Follow hallway expectations.

*Please make this request only if it is an emergency.

Shamrock Ticket Expectations

*When a ticket is received, write your name on both tickets.

*Write down reason for receiving the ticket.

*Place top ticket in the envelope on classroom door.

*Keep bottom ticket. Share good news with family and friends!

*Twenty tickets earn a prize.

Behavior Plan Expectations

*A warning card will be given when expectations are not followed.

*A conference card will be given if expectations are still not being followed. (A brief conference will occur with the teacher).

*A phone call home card will be given if behavior persists. (A phone call home will be made after school).

*An office referral card will be given if behavior persists. (An office referral will be scheduled for the same day or the following day).

 

STUDENT JOB EXPECTATIONS FOR MR. HOOPER’S CLASS

Lunch Count Job Expectations

*Lunch tokens left on table should only be absent classmates. Check the class list to make sure someone hasn’t forgotten to put their token into a bowl. If classmate is in the room, ask them privately to put their token into a selected bowl.

*Add chips for main lunch. Write an "M" and the total on a sticky note. Add chips for alternate lunch. Write an "A" and the total on the sticky note. Hand sticky note to teacher.

*On days when there is a guest teacher, complete attendance and lunch count on a yellow sheet. Show guest teacher for approval before putting it on the outside of the door.

Line Leader Job Expectations

*Go to front of line every time class lines up.

*Wait for the teacher to let you know class is ready.

*Guide class down hallway slowly. Stop at checkpoints. Wait for the teacher to say "continue" before going further down the hall.

*If fire alarm sounds, take red attendance sheet and red/green paper outside with class.

Lunch Basket Job Expectations

*When class is lining up for lunch, pick up lunch basket.

*Line up behind the line leader.

*When in dining room, gently set basket down in proper place.

*During the break after lunch, walk back towards dining room to retrieve lunch basket and bring back to classroom.

Washroom Monitor Job Expectations

*After using washroom, stay in washroom to give reminders to students not following expectations. Tell a teacher if a student is not following expectations after giving them a reminder.

Assignment Book (A.B.) Checker

*Initial students’ assignment books only after they have completely filled it out for the day.

Librarian Job Expectations

*Organize books in classroom library bins where needed.

*All books should be placed in their proper genre.

*On the morning that we have LMC as a special, gather LMC books. Bring books down to LMC.

Absent Buddy Job Expectations

*When your "buddy" is absent from school, fill out an assignment sheet for them.

*Leave the sheet on their desk. Organize materials on their desk.

*If the teacher requests, deliver materials to your absent buddy’s sibling in another classroom.

 

EMERGENCY SITUATION EXPECTATIONS FOR MR. HOOPER’S CLASS

(Red binder on door contains additional information.)

Fire Expectations

*When alarm sounds, line up immediately and remain quiet.

*Line leader will get attendance sheet and red/green paper.

*Follow the line leader to our location outside and face away from school.

*Listen for your name while attendance is being given. Say "Hooper" when your name is called.

*Wait for further instructions from teachers.

Tornado Expectations

*When alarm/announcement is given, go to our safe location in the classroom and get into a "duck and cover" position. Pack in tight close to wall.

*Wait there quietly for further instructions.

Lock Down Expectations

*When announcement is given, go to our safe location in classroom and sit down. Pack in tight close to wall.

*If you are in another location other than our classroom, head to the nearest classroom and go to their safe location.

*Wait there quietly until classroom door is unlocked by an adult from our school.

Other Emergencies

*Take the red hallway pass to the office or press the call button three times to let the office know that immediate attention is needed in the classroom.

*Use an emergency bathroom pass if needed at a non-break time.

 

ACADEMIC EXPECTATIONS FOR MR. HOOPER’S CLASS

Homework Expectations

*Complete assigned work on time.

*If absent, complete missing assignments according to how many days absent. For example: two days for two consecutive days absent.

*Use the homework chart to check for completed and missing assignments.

Missing Assignment Sheet Expectations

*When given a missing assignment sheet, copy down assignments from the assignment chart that are missing.

*Bring it home and have an adult sign the bottom portion.

*Complete missing assignments.

*Cut signed bottom portion off and return it to the teacher the school day following when the sheet was given.

*Phone calls home will be made if signed bottom portion is not returned to school.

Friday Folder Expectations

*When the Friday Folder is passed out, review the assignments with a parent.

*Have a parent sign the form included inside the folder.

*Leave all materials inside the folder.

*Return it to school on Monday.

Paper Heading Expectations

*In the top right corner, write your number.

*On the top left side, write your name; underneath your name, the subject.

*On the top right side, write the date; underneath the date, the assignment.

Writing, Reading, Science, Health, Social Studies, Math, & LTR Expectations

*Gather materials needed quickly and quietly.

*Follow listening and speaking expectations.

*Take notes when directed.

*Listen for the teacher to direct you to one of the following areas: your desk, small group areas, or another area by yourself.

*Focus your attention on the task given.

*Complete unfinished assignments for homework.
