11/21/08 Dear Parents and Students, We have had another great week! Missing assignment sheets have been sent home. If your child is the recipient of one, please sign, date, and return the bottom portion as a way to let me know that you are aware of the missing assignments. Keep the top portion so you have a record of the assignments that need to be completed. The Friday Folder has also been sent home. Please review the work with your child, sign and date the form included, leave all the materials in the folder, and return it to school on Monday. Below, you will find a preview of what will be learned in the next two weeks. Math: We will wrap up our study of the concepts in Chapter 21. The Chapter 21 test will occur on Tuesday, Nov. 25th. To help your child study, please review the following lessons in the textbook: 21.1 (Chapter 21, Lesson 1), 21.2, 21.3, 21.4, and 21.5. We will then move onto Chapter 22, a study of integers. Social Studies: Our study of the "Roaring Twenties" has come to an end. The Chapter 8 Test will occur on Tuesday, Nov. 25th. This will be an open-book test. To help your child study, please review pages 256-283 in the textbook. We will then move onto Chapter 9, a study of the Great Depression and the New Deal. Reading/Spelling: For reading, we will be learning about the comprehension strategy of determining fact and opinion and the vocabulary strategy of using the pronunciation key in a dictionary. A test over these reading strategies and the vocabulary words of the week will occur on Friday, Dec. 5th. To help your child study, review the pages before and after the main selection, When Esther Morris Headed West, in the reading textbook. Our spelling list will consist of words with V/V (Vowel/Vowel) pattern. A test over these words will occur on Friday, Dec. 5th. Writing/Grammar: Our fiction unit will continue as we experiment with story structures, leads, and writing fluent sentences. Grammar skills will emphasize the tenses of verbs. If there are any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me by e-mail: hooperb@vvsd.org Have a wonderful weekend and Thanksgiving break. Sincerely, Mr. Brad Hooper |
