Physical Education

Jamie McGee Style
This web page is intended to keep you up to date with current and upcoming
activities that your child is participating in at Jamie McGee School during
their physical education classes. As a safety precaution, children should have gym shoes. Please
don't feel that it is necessary to buy new gym shoes if your child has a pair
that he/she is comfortable in. We do not require a separate pair be
purchased for physical education.
With the changes in the weather, children are allowed to wear their jackets,
hats,
and sweatshirts for physical education classes as we will continue to go outside
as long as weather permits.
On another note, if your child is unable to participate in physical education
class, he/she should have a note from a doctor. A note from a parent is
only accepted for 2 days. If your child is injured on his/her way to
school or isn't feeling well, the nurse will advise if the child can take
physical education for that day. We realize that it is not always possible
to have a note.
Starting the new school year with a kick!
Since the school year began, your child has been involved in many activities.
We started the year with teambuilding activities.. The children have learned how to
work on a team, display good sportsmanship, and recognize individual
differences. The children are commended for displaying
trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship.
Children have been learning various soccer skills. The children have worked
on dribbling, passing, trapping, tick-tock (eye foot drill), pull-backs,
defense, offense, and shooting at a goal. As we progress with the lessons,
the children will continue to learn new skills and participate in a variety of
modified soccer activities. Some of the older students have been offering
suggestions and leading their peers through drills and low organized
games.
Younger children are also working on coordination, spatial awareness, and
various loco-motor skills and activities.
Upcoming Activities: Our PE health club unit is
next. Students will be working at various stations to assist with
promoting good fitness. Students also will also be able to use our pedometers to
track their own individual progress.
Welcome Mr. Mack! Due to our increase in enrollment, we have an additional PE teacher.
Mr. Mack teaches physical education classes to Ms. Quebbeman's class and Ms.
Hillyer's class.
Welcome Mr. Folmar!

Jumping our way to good health and fitness!!
Mr. Folmar is currently completing his student teaching experience in the
area of physical education at Jamie McGee Elementary School. We are
pleased to have him join us as we continue to develop fitness through a variety
of activities. Mr. Folmar is currently teaching the children new jump rope
routines. Students have learned individual, partner, and group rope tricks.
Happy
Thanksgiving!
 Stepping
our way to a healthy heart
For the next few weeks, the students at Jamie McGee will be participating in
step aerobic activities in their regular scheduled PE classes. Students in
grades 3-5 are learning how to determine their resting heart rate and target
heart rate. The children have learned how to check their heart rate by taking
their pulse and placing their fingers on their neck (carotid) or wrist (radial) arteries and using their
math skills to calculate their performance. The students have also learned
various ways of moving on the bench to improve their levels of fitness. The
children will be participating in step routines with the benches, as
they continue to monitor their individual progress.
Children in grades 1-2 are also using the benches to perform basic movement
patterns along with various rhythmic activities.
