“HAVE YOU SEEN MY HOMEWORK
FOLDER?” All 1st – 5th
grade students were given a HOMEWORK folder this
year. Our goal is to use a similar folder
school-wide so that everyone- students, teachers,
and parents- will know that this folder contains
papers that should be brought home, completed , and
returned.

UNIVERSAL TERMS…. In
order to help children work with various adults in
the school, we, as a staff, are using universal
terms and signals with all children. By having
common terms, children are less confused as they
move from their classroom, the lunchroom, the
playground, gym, etc.
SILENT SIGNAL…When we
want to gain the attention of groups of children,
the adult will hold up 3 fingers and begins counting
backwards from 3 to 0, lowering a finger with each
number until a fist is displayed. Once the count is
to “0” and a fist is made, the children have been
taught that it is a “silent” time.
VOICE VOLUME.. we are
using 4 terms to describe different voice volume
with all children:
0 = “silent”
1 = “whisper” voice
2 = “conversation” voice
3 = “presenter” voice
RIDING BIKES TO SCHOOL…..
walking students in grades 3, 4, & 5 are allowed to
ride their bikes to school. Bus rider students may
not ride their bikes to school. All bikes are to be
“walked” on school grounds (between our safety
patrols). For those parents who also ride with
their child to school, we ask that you also walk
your bike while on school grounds. Scooters and
roller blades/skates should be left at home.
FIRE DEPARTMENT POSTER CONTEST.....
The Bolingbrook Fire Department is asking all
students in Bolingbrook to draw a poster in
conjunction with this year’s theme of “Prevent
Home Fires.” Posters should be kept to a
maximum size 14" x 18". There will be first place
and second place prizes awarded in each grade at
each school based on the content of the poster
subject. Our school’s grand prize winner
will ride to school on a fire truck.
One special prize winner will be selected from all
entries with that child receiving a bicycle. The
child’s full name, grade, teacher, and school name
must be printed on the back of each poster.
Posters are due in the school office by 1:00pm,
Friday, September 19, 2008.
LUNCH MONEY…... We
thank our many parents who make use of our debit
card system for paying for your child’s lunch. By
placing money on your child’s lunch card, we
experience less time that children spend waiting in
line for their lunch and increase the amount of time
they have to eat. Any amount of money may be sent
in to be placed in your child’s account. Please
make checks out to Valley View Food Service and
indicate your child’s first and last name on the
memo line. If you send cash, please put it in an
envelope and label it as LUNCH MONEY with your
child’s name.
A yellow Reminder Flyer is sent
home on Tuesdays and Thursdays to inform you that
the account is low on funds or negative. If you
would like your child to have money in his/her
account, please submit ASAP to avoid an interruption
in your child receiving a lunch.
