Mrs. Alaniz’s
3rd Grade Class
Welcome to a brand new school year!
We have so many exciting lessons and activities planned for this upcoming year!
Please be sure to look over all the important information inside your parent packet that will be sent home the first week of school. After reading and discussing the procedures with your child, please sign and return the bottom portion to me.
Homework
Reading:
Your child will have reading homework every
night. They are responsible for reading at least 15 minutes each night. A
reading log will be sent home every Monday and due back to school the following
Monday with title, author, number of pages read, length of time, and a parent
signature recorded on the log.
Math:
A math assignment will be sent home for each new lesson taught. Occasionally,
students will have a review assignment.
Spelling:
Students will be given a list at the beginning of each quarter of words we will
be studying throughout the quarter. Your child will have the entire quarter to
learn and use the words correctly in their writing. They will have occasional
“pop quizzes,” but the final assessment will be at the end of each quarter.
Other subject
areas:
(Writing, science, social studies, health)
There will not be nightly homework in these subject areas, but students will
have projects and assignments throughout the school year.
*Be sure to read over my homework policy in your parent packet.
Behavior Management
I am encouraging the children to put forth their best effort in everything they do. Please
read and discuss our rules and the importance of a safe and respectful learning environment
with your child.
To help ensure a safe and successful school experience, we have the following classroom rules:
3 Be Rules
1. Be Respect
2. Be Responsibility
3. Be Safe
*Students are given a two-sided calendar each month. On one side of the calendar is a homework record. The other side of the calendar is a behavior record. For each day the students are in school, they will receive a stamp if homework is turned in and using the color chart below, will record their behavior for each day.
Behavior Chart
Green: On task
Yellow: Warning
Red: Phone call,
letter, or email sent home
Black: Off 3 Be’s for the month, a trip to the Principal’s
office, and a letter sent home
Rewards
Every month that
your child stays on 3 Be’s, he/she will get to participate in an end of the
month activity.
Each month there will be a new activity.
Ways to get off 3 Be’s
* If your child has 3 missing assignments in one month, he/she will be off 3 Be’s.
* Your child will
also be off 3 Be’s for the month if he/she has any of the following color
combinations for their
behavior: 4 yellows, 2 reds, or 1 black
on their behavior calendar.
*Your child can also get off 3 Be’s by losing their homework/behavior calendar before the end of that month.
* *Each month, students will be given a new calendar.
Off 3 Be’s
* If your child is
off 3 Be’s he/she will have to bring a note home to be signed by a parent to let
you know why they
wi will not be participating in that month’s activity. If
your child is off 3 Be’s he/she will have a silent study hall
d during the 3 Be’s activity.
This is a great way to make your child responsible for his/her own actions.
Friday Folders:
I will send home this folder with your child at the end of each week. Please look over all graded papers in your child’s Friday folder, sign it, and return it to school on Monday. This is one way to eliminate lost papers and keeps parents informed of their child’s academic progress all year long.
* Daily Assignment Books:
Your child was required to purchase an assignment notebook this year. Your
child will be responsible for filling
out the assignment book each day at school. This allows
parents to see what homework assignments students need
to complete that night. If your child finishes an assignment
at school, I will initial it so you know your child has
completed the assignment. I request that the notebook
is checked and signed with a parent initial every night to
see if your child has completed his/her work. I may write
comments for you to read. I encourage you to write
comments for me to read, too. This is another way
parents can monitor their child’s academic progress daily.
Contact me:
The best way to contact me is through email. My school address is alanizee@vvsd.org. I can also be reached thirty minutes before and after school at 739-7155.
I look forward to a successful school year working with both….parents and my students.
