McGee Named PBIS Illinois Exemplary School

Just one year after being recognized by the Illinois State Board of Education as an Illinois Honor Roll School, McGee Elementary has also been named a PBIS Illinois Exemplary School recently. The Illinois Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Network is a statewide initiative to give schools capacity-building information and technical assistance for identifying, adapting, and sustaining effective school-wide disciplinary practices. McGee Elementary was one of the first schools in Valley View School District 365U to implement the framework several years ago.

Mary Jo Padula (Resource Teacher and Internal PBIS Coach), Rebecca Furlan (4th grade teacher), and Mike Zolecki (Principal) presented their school's successes at the Illinois PBIS Summer Conference in July.

The recognition by the Illinois State Board of Education as an Illinois Honor Roll School was the result of standardized test results of McGee students. The school was was of only 150 schools in the state, and one of only 26 suburban schools named to the 2004-2005 Honor Roll by increasing state test scores in both reading and math by more than 15 points between 2002 and 2004 and by making Adequate Yearly Progress as defined by No Child Left Behind legislation for the years of 2003 and 2004.
