Flores wins Jane Addams spelling bee; Owusu is second

     Seventh grader Jayden Flores spelled anomaly and pneumonic correctly in the 17th round, edging eighth grader Edward Owusu to win the Jane Addams Middle School Spelling Bee Monday.
     Both spellers will advance to the VVSD Spelling Bee at Humphrey Middle School on Feb. 5 along with 6th grader Jimel Rogers who spelled forensics correctly in the sixth round to beat Kristian Bielski. Rogers finished 5th overall in the Addams competition.
     Flores earned his 7th grade berth when he spelled stenographer correctly in the 7th round, eliminating Jade Stewart who missed on incandescence. Stewart wound up 4th overall.
     Owusu, who finished third in the Will County Spelling Bee last year, clinched his 8th grade berth on precocious in the 9th round after Danielle Cinquepalmi misspelled indigenous. Cinquepalmi finished 3rd in the overall spelling bee.
