| Intro to Modern World History: |
Students will study materials that introduce western and
non-western cultures from the Renaissance to the present. Major
emphasis will be placed on such themes as revolution, technology, nationalism,
and how they impact a cultures beliefs and values. |

| 8th Grade Science: |
Students will learn of the and discuss topics such as
heredity, and biology, electricity and computer technology. Students
will also learn how to use the scientific method to investigate ideas and
occurrences during labs. |

| 8th Grade Social Studies: |
Students will participate in lesson that provide an
understanding of and appreciation for the world, its people, and its
institutions both past and present. This understanding will help
students to develop the civic competence needed to make informed rational
decisions for the good of themselves and society. |

| 8th Grade Language Arts: |
Students will participate in a variety of activities that
are aimed at meeting state and district goals. Goals include:
reading strategically for effective comprehension, communicating ideas in
writing for varying purposes and audiences, listening, and speaking in a
variety of situations, and reading independently for information and
enjoyment. |

| 8th Grade Reading/Writing: |
Students will focus on ISAT preparations via various reading
and writing projects. Students will learn to compose narrative,
expository, and persuasive essays; they will also work on exercises to
improve reading comprehension. |

|
| Peace: |
Students will practice life and social skills that relate to real life
situations and experiences. |
All students are
required to keep and maintain notebooks and folders for each class. Items
to be kept in the notebooks are:

- Notes from text/class notes/homework
|
- Group Processing Notes (Usually done in class)
|
|
Items to be kept in
folders are:
- Graded handouts or worksheets
|
- Graded texts and/or quizzes
|
- Any loose sheets or paper
|
Homework Grading
Policy:
+ (plus) if done; - (minus) if not done (points given vary with assignment)
Students must understand that
homework helps to reinforce ideas and concepts presented during class.
- Make-up work is the student's responsibility. It is only
allowed for excused absences.
|
- Late assignments are only accepted the next day for partial credit,
unless other arrangements have been made with the teacher in advance.
|
Technology will be integral part of lessons this year as
students will complete essays, research assignments, and projects requiring the
use of multimedia and various resources.
