Pioneer Elementary School
Safety Plan

THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE BUILDING IS RESERVED FOR BUS DROP OFF AND PICK-UP AND WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE TO CARS DURING BUS ARRIVALS (8:35-9:05AM) AND DEPARTURES (3:05-3:25PM).

ALL CARS WILL DROP-OFF AND PICK- UP STUDENTS FROM THE NORTH SIDE OF THE BUILDING BETWEEN THE HOURS OF 8:45-9:00AM AND 3:00-3:20PM. PLEASE FOLLOW THE TRAFFIC PATTERN FOR SAFETY OF ALL STUDENTS. See attached map. The only buses that use the North Side of the building are for the afternoon drop off of Kindergarten students.

PROCEDURES FOR DROP-OFF and PICK-UP
Our drop-off and pick-up area is at the North Side of the building to the East of Entrance #1 in front of the classrooms. Parents have two options for drop-off and pick-up of students. We highly encourage all those driving to utilize the Car Pick-Up and Drop-Off Lane Process rather than parking and walking to personally pick-up your child.

Option #1- Parents are asked to form a single file line, pull up to the drop off sign, and children exit or enter your car to the curb. Students should exit and enter the car door closest to the building. Remaining in your automobile, following the signs posted, and having your child enter your car from the curb is, by far, the safest and most efficient method for car pick-ups and drop-offs at Pioneer School. Please pull all the way up to the yellow sign, heeding the volunteer traffic controllers’ signals. Once your child or children have left the vehicle, please be patient and wait until the cars in front of you begin to leave. Please do not pass on the left of the drop-off and pick-up line as there are parents walking their children to and from the crosswalk to their automobiles.

Option #2- Parents may choose to park in the Northeast side of the parking lot and escort their child to the front door. Parents are asked to stay in the single file line until reaching the Northeast lot. See attached map.

Option #2A – During afternoon dismissal, parents may also choose to park in the lot next to the tennis courts. For safety, there is absolutely no parking along the West side of the school.

Parents personally meeting children should please wait outside EXIT 15 by the bike racks. The only persons allowed inside the school vestibule during dismissal are parents with students in the Early Childhood Program and those children with special needs. All other parents must wait outside. We are not trying to be mean or insensitive, but, our vestibule at dismissal time becomes very crowded and a potentially unsafe situation when unfamiliar adults are among the entire student body that are in the process of dismissing.

The Northwest parking lot is reserved for Pioneer Elementary School Staff. Visitors parking or parents who are parking and picking up their child may use the Northeast side of the parking lot or the tennis court parking lots only. Those children that normally ride the bus, but will be picked up by a parent, will need to notify the teacher with a written dated note. Students who do not provide the teacher with a written dated note will ride the bus home.

Before School

BUSSED STUDENTS
are to enter the school building through the South Entrance (#11) cafeteria doors.

WALKERS AND CAR STUDENTS are to enter the school building through the North Main Entrance doors (#1), and proceed to the cafeteria. The NORTH DOORS will be open at 8:45AM or when the first bus arrives. This means that students arriving before 8:45AM will be outside without adult supervision. Since faculty/staff contracts set their starting time at 8:50AM, we do not have anyone to assign this duty. The principal and assistant principal will attempt to be outside before school begins on those days when not scheduled for before school meetings.

Parents can help by not bringing/sending students to school too early. If you drive your child to school, please plan on dropping him/her off between 8:45-9:05AM. Students are expected to be seated in their classrooms when the second bell rings at 9:05AM. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD ANY CHILD ARRIVE ON SCHOOL GROUNDS BEFORE 8:45AM. PARENTS WILL BE CONTACTED IF THEIR CHILD ARRIVES AT SCHOOL BEFORE 8:45AM.

During School
It is very important that the emergency information we have on file for your child is accurate throughout the school year. If any of the information you provide us on the Blue PUPIL EMERGENCY INFORMATION FORM OR THE EARLY DISMISSAL INFORMATION FORM changes during the school year, please call, fax, or send a note with the information to be changed to the school office. In the event of an emergency involving your child at school, we must have up-to-date information. It is the responsibility of every parent to see that this information is always accurate.

After School

• North Front Doors Bus students being picked up by a parent who turned in written (Door #1) dated note to their teacher

• North Gymnasium Door All walkers who are being picked up
(Door #15)

• South Doors Buses only
(Door #11)

Note:
Parents of students who walk or ride the bus home from their bus stops should have a good idea of how long it takes to walk home. Based on all students exiting our school doors no later than 3:20 PM, parents need to set a time by which students must report home. The time established by parents should allow just enough time for a “normal paced” walk home. Students need to be instructed by parents that they are to walk straight home after school and not stop to play or visit along the way. Children who know they have a time deadline to meet are less likely to experience trouble on their way home from school. We believe that any day a child fails to report
home at the time established by parents, the child should NOT be allowed to go outside for the rest of that day/evening. The message should be clear and consistent to your child: Be home, on time, every school day or be prepared to stay inside. This is a logical consequence for not meeting your reasonable requirements.
