ROBERT C. HILL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT PLAN 2007-08 Each year, we develop a School Improvement Plan for our school, as do all of the schools in our district. Our staff and parents contribute to establishing our plans and review our progress on the objectives we set each month. Our School Improvement Plan can be viewed in its entirety (by request) in our school office. The R.C. Hill School Improvement Plan reflects the three basic objectives of the school district: To improve reading/language arts; to improve mathematics; and to provide a safe environment for students and staff. Each of our three improvement objectives includes technology activities to provide support for students and teachers in the improvement efforts. The School Improvement Plan is written for a two year time period, 2007-09. Our school Leadership Team reviews and revises our objectives each year as needed, using the latest assessment information and survey information we have available. In reviewing our 2007 ISAT results, we met or exceeded all ISAT targets in almost all groups. One group, students with Individual Education Plans, did not make Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) in reading. Using the ISAT information, our District assessments, and parent, teacher, and student survey results, we were able to target the specific areas of need when writing our school objectives. The objectives written for 2007-09 are: To increase reading achievement in subgroups (Hispanic, economically disadvantaged, and IEP) to meet AYP (Adequate Yearly Progress) or Safe Harbor targets. To increase math scores (specifically for students with IEP’s) to meet AYP or Safe Harbor Targets. To decrease Office Discipline Referrals (ODR’s) by 5% each year. Each of these objectives contains strategies and activities related to students, staff, and parent involvement. In reading, we are continuing our Reading Rooms for selected students, implementing our new reading series across all grade levels, providing additional training for our teachers in specific strategies for teaching in reading and implementing a plan to increase reading fluency. In math, we are implementing a new math support curriculum for at-risk students, maintaining our focus on basic facts for all students (grades 2 – 5) through our weekly timed tests (Winning Wednesdays), and training our teachers in specific strategies for teaching identified math topics. To maintain a safe environment for students and staff, we are continuing our teaching of school rules and expectations through “cool tools” designed to target specific behaviors and/or situations and are continuing to recognize student success through the use of “Paw” tickets. In addition, school staff will be trained on specific health and safety issues related to school safety. We will monitor our progress towards meeting these goals at monthly Leadership Team meetings. Information gathered in District assessments will be reviewed at least quarterly in these team meetings. Students needing additional interventions will be identified and services will be provided to meet these needs. The Secondary and Tertiary Teams will monitor the interventions and student progress towards meeting their goals. The staff at Robert Hill School is committed to continual improvement of student learning and to providing a safe and positive learning environment for all students. We encourage parent involvement in their child’s school experiences. Your help and support is invaluable! If you have any questions, please contact the school office. |
