Consumer Education Proficiency Exam

Currently, Illinois law states that all students must show proof of passing a Consumer Education class prior to earning a high school diploma.  Students who wish to test out of this requirement may take the Consumer Education proficiency exam instead.  There is no cost for the exam, and students may take this test only once per year.  Students who are concurrently enrolled in the Consumer Education class MAY NOT take the exam.  Any student interested in taking this test should see Mrs. Hudson in the Guidance Office.

Cosponsored by the College Board and the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, the PSAT serves as valuable practice for the SAT and is also used to select students for National Merit Scholarships.  Most students take the PSAT during the fall of their junior year.  If you are interested in taking the PSAT, see Mrs. Hudson in the Guidance Office.

Financial Aid Night

The program will provide attendees with an overview for how to develop a college financing plan. Although the program will be most timely for parents of Senior students, parents with students in any high school grade may attend along with their students. If you are the parent of a Senior student and you are unable to attend the Financial Aid Night, please email guidance counselor Anita Hilton at hiltonac@vvsd.org, so that she may email you a packet of helpful Financial Aid information.

 
ASVAB Test

The ASVAB Career Exploration Test was developed with input from a panel of career development experts and designed to encourage students to increase their level of self-knowledge and to understand how that information could be linked to civilian and military occupational characteristics.  There is no cost to take the test, and students who take the test are under no obligation to the military.  Any student interested in taking this test should see Mr. Bates in the Guidance Office.

Prairie State Achievement Exam
April 22 & 23, 2009

The PSAE is required of all juniors in the state of Illinois.  It is a two-day exam.  The first day of the exam is the ACT, and the second day of the PSAE exam features state-developed assessments in reading, science, and math.  All juniors who have earned a specified number credits by the start of their 6th semester are required to take the PSAE.  For questions regarding the PSAE, see Mrs. Steeves at school.

Bridges to a New Day

This adults-only parent-to-parent group will be facilitated by Bridges to a New Day staff, but is designed for parents to exchange ideas and strategies for parenting children with ADD or ADHD.  Other topics to be addressed include ways to improve self-esteem, helping the child cope with school pressures, and more.  To register, contact Deonne at 815-838-2690.
