A Typical Day

Arrival/Table Activities: Children select quiet activities such as puzzles, and other manipulatives, or they may draw in a journal which emphasize fine motor skills.

Circle Time: Everyone comes together to hear of the day's activities. Many teachers talk about the weather, sing hello songs and greet everyone who is in school. Each child then chooses the center they would like to participate in during this time.

Centers/Work Time: Centers available to choose from include blocks, art, dramatic play, writing, books and sensory table and computers. Learning is facilitated by the classroom teacher, assistants and speech pathologist. Social skills and turn taking are also emphasized.

Clean Up: Children learn to cooperate with others while putting the toys away.

Snack: Each child brings an individual snack and drink each day. This is a great time to encourage communication, work on self-help skills as well as good manners.

Movement: Large motor skills are enhanced through obstacle courses, physical games and other gross motor activities. They are enjoyed in the motor room, on the playground, or in the hall.

Music: Is enjoyed every day in the classroom through singing, finger plays and movement through music.

Story Time: Teachers read to children in large and small groups. This enhances listening skills and memory and asking thought provoking questions.

Dismissal: Children are encouraged to collect their belongings independently as they get ready to go home.
