In conjunction with our discussion on "Plants" and American Folklore, the first graders went on a field trip to Aurora Park District's Blackberry Farm Pioneer Village. It was a beautiful day and we had a great time. The bus driver told our class she had never had such a well-behaved class - EVER!
The focus of our trip was to learn all about apples - from seeds to cider. We also heard the story of Johnny "Appleseed" Chapman who spent 40 years planting apple trees throughout the then known America.
Thanks to ALL of our chaperones for a successful field trip: We couldn't have done it without you.
As part of our "after the field trip" discussions, the first graders were asked to share what they had learned on the field trip. Using "Kidspiration" software, the first graders and Mrs. Anding created a "Blackberry Farms Field Trip" fact web. The first graders each shared a fact of something they heard during the field trip. The results are below. I'm sure you will agree, they did an excellent job!
