Last Christmas, it came to our attention that one of our regular "guest teachers" here at Wood View has a son in the Army who was stationed in Iraq. Mrs. Bowman has been soliciting classes to make cards and decorate "treat" bags to send to her son and his 185-person company.

As part of our on-going mission to let those in the military know we appreciate their sacrifice to keep us all free, our first grade class joined several other classrooms at Wood View to help Mrs. Bowman achieve her goal.

At her own expense, Mrs. Bowman purchased all of the supplies for classrooms to make cards and decorate "treat" bags. She filled these bags with candy and treats: 130 pounds worth, which was donated by her other employer, Kohl's (her family was eating on table trays because there were treat bags everywhere!). She sent these completed cards and bags to her son's company via U.S. Postal Service, which cost her $160.00.

Our class discussed how else we could be of help to Mrs. Bowman and her noble cause. Unanimously, we decided each student would donate $1.00 to help Mrs. Bowman pay the postage for her heartfelt undertaking.  Mrs. Anding (retired Air Force spouse) and her family are also making a personal donation.

Well, we are very proud to say we exceeded are goal of $30.00 and collected $54.00 thanks to the generosity of our wonderful first grade students and families.

We are proud to have been included in this project to let some of America's heroes, the men and women of the U.S. Military, know we appreciate them.

To view all of the cards created by our first graders, click on SPC Bowman's picture.  The theme of our cards was "Dear Soldier".  Thanks to Mrs. T.... who scanned in all of the cards created by our class for you to read. I know you will agree, America's future is in good hands with these young Americans!!!!!
