To reinforce our "Five Star Writing" framework, every day our classroom has "writing share time".   Anyone who wishes to share an object, event, activity, person, etc. with our class can  write about the above using "five star writing".  The student can bring a photograph, the object, or illustrate a picture that matches what he/she is writing.

PARENTS!!!!!!!  PLEASE DO NOT CORRECT THEIR WRITINGS!  We LOVE them just the way they write them!  In other words, please DO NOT help your child write this activity in any way.  This is strictly a voluntary writing the student chooses to do to share in class.

The goal is not to present a "perfect" paper, but to allow your child the opportunity to express himself/herself on paper using the tools he/she knows.  For "known" words, appropriate spelling is expected:  For new words, the student can use "developmental spelling strategies" - writing the letters based on the sounds he/she is using when he/she says the word.  I will go over each paper with the student during writing share time.

Each student who writes and presents during "writing share time" using all of the elements of "Five Star Writing" receives a pencil (to write some more), a Five Star Writer sticker on his/her paper and self, and has his/her paper displayed for reading on our Five Star Writing bulletin board.

Here are the writings that the first graders have written to date.  They are very proud of their writing creations; so, please give them the praise they deserve for a job well done!

Enjoy!
