As part of our discussions about Veteran's day, Mrs. Anding took the first graders on a virtual field trip to several military posts, forts, and bases to show the different branches of services. Part of our travels took us to Dyess Air Force Base, where Mr. & Mrs. Anding were stationed when Mr. Anding was in the Air Force (20 years, 4 months, 26 days). Mr. Anding was kind enough to let the first graders check-out his air crew flight helmet, ribbons, etc. As you can see below, we may have some future "top gun" pilots. Can you guess who they are?
Also, as part of our classroom discussions about Veteran's Day and Thanksgiving, we created a Veteran's Day learning center displaying military memorabilia. We also created a bulletin board entitled, "We Are Thankful For Those Who Keep Us Free!", which displays the pictures of staff and students' daddies, grandpas, great-grandpas, aunts, uncles, husbands and brother--in-laws who are serving or have served in the military. The first graders will also be creating thank you cards to active duty soldiers (details to follow alter), thanking them for their sacrifice and letting them know we appreciate all they do to keep us free and safe.
In the meantime, please find below the pictures of those family members in our classroom who are veterans.
Enjoy.....................and remember to thank a veteran or an active duty soldier!
We wouldn't be free without them!
