As part of our classroom activities on Thanksgiving and Veteran's Day, Mrs. Anding's first grade decided to create a "thankful board" honoring all veterans and active duty service members in all branches of our military. They entitled their bulletin board, "We Are Thankful For Those Who Keep Us Free!".
The first graders also created thank you cards to all of the men and women who serve in our armed services, thanking them for their sacrifice and letting them know we appreciate all they do to keep us free and safe.

As part of our discussions about Veteran's day, Mrs. Anding took the first graders on a virtual field trip to Dyess Air Force Base, where Mr. & Mrs. Anding were stationed when Mr. Anding was in the Air Force (20 years, 4 months, 26 days). Mr. Anding was kind enough to let the first graders check-out his air crew flight helmet, ribbons, etc. As you can see below, we have some future "top gun" pilots. Can you guess who they are?
Our cards were sent to three family members of our class who are deployed overseas. Our students and their wonderful families donated items to create care packages to send along with the cards the first graders made. We used our "winter party" as the format to pack the "care packages" to send to the soldiers. These great little Americans (and their families) demonstrated what great sharers they are! Indeed, our country is in good hands!
