Welcome to Second Grade!
I graduated from Northern Illinois University with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and endorsements to teach middle school language arts and social studies. I also earned a second bachelor’s degree in English Literature, with a minor in marketing. Before coming to BJ Ward, I worked in the marketing/e-commerce department of a local book publishing house. Although I loved helping authors get their books out into the world, I missed being in the classroom. I ended up working a one-year maternity leave in second grade here at BJ Ward, and the rest is history! This will now be my 4th year teaching second grade at BJW.
My teaching philosophy is that every single one of my students is a reader, writer, mathematician, and scientist. I believe that my second graders are capable of truly amazing things and I love helping them set goals and celebrate these amazing achievements! My love for reading began at a very early age and I also hope to instill an appreciation and passion for reading in each and every one of my students.
I grew up in Naperville and currently reside in Plainfield with my husband, Tolis, my new daughter, Mikaela, and my beagle, Milo. I love running, cooking, reading, writing, and attending concerts and sports games (go Cubs, Bulls, and Steelers!). I also love to travel, especially to my ultimate happy place, Cabo San Lucas, Mexico! :)
