Mr. Nejman

My name is Dan Nejman and I am the Physical Education and Health Teacher at Bernard J. Ward Elementary School. This is my second year in Valley View School District 365 U.  Before Valley View, I taught in Queen Bee School District 16 for 7 years.  Prior to that I taught Physical Education in Yorkville, Illinois.  I started my career at Bernard J. Ward Elementary School during the 2018-2019 school year after hearing about an opening from my wife.

My wife also works in Valley View 365U as a Speech Language Pathologist.  I also have two boys at home Noah who will be 5 in March and Christian who turned 2 years old in September.  My passion is teaching Physical Education and this year I have made it a personal goal to find ways to incorporate technology into the PE Program.  My goal is to constantly find ways to enhance our program.  Learning is a process and as times change so should the way that we teach.  In order to keep up with society, technology and student interests and abilities I am always trying to find new and better ways to engage students in learning.

I want to show students that learning and physical activity is not only necessary to maintain a healthy body and mind but that it can be fun.  Whether it be through skill development, sports and fitness or exercise, Physical Education helps students develop Physical Literacy.  We don't just play games or teach sports.  Physical Education is so much more than that.  New PE focuses on teamwork, cooperation, social-emotional learning (SEL), communication, problem solving, fitness, health, nutrition and much more.

This year I have found ways to incorporate technology for assessment, student reflection, and student engagement.  I also recently started a PE Twitter page.  You can follow me on twitter @MrNejman.  I am also very active on our school Instagram page.  If you use social media you can see what students are learning in Physical Education and learn with us.  Fifth Grade just had a field trip to The Chicago Wolves Game at the Allstate Arena and when I tweeted about it on my school twitter page, the Wolves immediately followed me and tweeted back.

Social media when used correctly can be a powerful tool.  You can see a lot of what New PE looks like at Family Fitness Night as I will showcase what we do and how we do it in Physical Education class.  Feel free to reach out to me with any questions, concerns or if you just want to chat about New PE or some of the new things that we are doing.  Also, make sure to follow me on twitter @MrNejman.
