• Welcome Message
    from Superintendent Rachel Kinder, Ed.S.

The VVSD community has been on quite a journey over the last 18 months.  Our lives, our habits, and our expectations have undergone monumental changes and required all of us to make major adjustments to how we assist our learners on their educational journey.

Words cannot adequately express our gratitude to you for your flexibility and understanding since March 2020 when our routines were upended by the COVID-19 pandemic.  We all had to work together to meet the new requirements for health and safety while also adjusting to best meet the educational and social emotional needs of our learners.  Never before has best practice in education been altered so quickly, and I’m proud to say that never before has a community risen so ably to meet a challenge.

While we continue to work toward the goal of having education look as it did before the pandemic, as we begin the 2021-22 school year, we must remain responsive to current conditions and committed to health and safety as a priority.  Requirements for social distancing, facial coverings, and self-certification remain in place for our students and staff until State guidance is adjusted and the District determines that it is appropriate to adjust our protocols.

Our future planning and  decisions will continue to be focused on the health and safety for students and staff as the top priority.  This will be supported by ongoing  use of data and voice of our stakeholder groups, as well as ongoing assessment of needs.  We will also continue to adapt and follow the most current requirements set forth by the Illinois Department of Public Health and the Illinois State Board of Education for in-person school attendance.

Although the challenges are great, we have the incredible opportunity to continue to model critical life skills for our children. As we move forward and grow together, our ability to collaborate, adapt, communicate, and persevere in the interest of serving our learners is more important than ever. Thank you for your continued partnership and flexibility in meeting the needs of your child. We are in this together for Every Learner. Every Day.
