Electronic Network Acknowledgement
Valley View is dedicated to providing students with a safe and secure online experience. In an effort to do so, students and staff are reminded of their commitment to adhere to Board Policy 6.235 (Access to Electronic Networks), outlined in the respective Student or Staff Acceptable Use Policy signed annually. Students are reminded that the same behavioral expectations exist in the virtual classroom as in the regular classroom setting. Failure to adhere to virtual classroom expectations may lead to disciplinary actions by the District, governed by the Student Handbook.
Parents/Guardians understand that the District utilizes video conferencing as a mechanism to enhance remote learning opportunities for students. Please be aware that the use of third-party virtual platforms creates potential privacy risks, such as risks related to encryption reliability, unauthorized access, data breaches and/or student access to non-school-sponsored content. In addition, depending on the virtual platform used, the platform may use, maintain and/or disclose information gathered in connection with virtual sessions for its own purposes, including purposes related to product development and/or marketing. While these privacy risks do exist, our staff are taking reasonable measures to ensure confidentiality and security of information exchanged while supporting students through these virtual platforms.
School staff will communicate with you as to when videoconferencing activities and opportunities will be available for your student, either for individual or group instruction. On your end, if your student is participating in a videoconferencing session, we ask that you ensure that your student is in a quiet, school-work designated space and/or using headphones, and that your student’s device is non-public facing. We are asking students and parents/guardians to maintain information learned about other students in a confidential manner, just as we would expect for our students while attending school. No session may be recorded by students or parents/guardians in any manner.
When video conferencing, students are expected to:
- Use their official District account affiliated with their District-provided email address
- Identify themselves properly with the name used in the classroom
- Do not share username, password, or staff provided with others
- Adhere to normal rules regarding dress, language, and behavior that apply in the school setting
To ensure students are protected to the maximum extent possible, Valley View encourages schools and staff to utilize the District’s Google platform as its security procedures have been thoroughly vetted by the District. That being said, the District is aware that there are various other platforms available that schools/staff believe will better meet their students’ needs. In an effort to honor the requests of the various schools/staff/and students, the District acknowledges that these platforms may be used in lieu of Google.
As the parent/guardian, you are responsible for reviewing the Privacy Policy and Terms of Use for the product your school/teachers are using for remote learning purposes. Google Workspace for Education’s Privacy Policy is linked here. As the parent/guardian, you remain legally responsible for any personal actions taken by your child on this platform and acknowledge that Google Workspace for Education is a third-party platform outside of the control of Valley View School District. In consideration for your student’s participation in remote learning via the Google Workspace for Education platform, you acknowledge that Valley View Community Unit School District, its schools, employees, and representatives will not be held liable for anything that may arise during your student’s use of Google Workspace for Education.
