Enrollment

To be eligible to register, Kindergarten students must be 5 on or before September 1, 2025 and the family must live within VVSD school boundaries.  We offer full-day Kindergarten at all elementary schools and a half-day program at Oak View Elementary in Bolingbrook. If your child already attends the Dr. James Mitchem Early Childhood Center, you do not need to enroll again for Kindergarten.  

STEP 1

Complete and submit the online application beginning February 28, 2025. Wait for a member of the Enrollment staff to contact you for an in-person appointment.

STEP 2

Bring all of your required documents to your appointment. Bring your child if a language other than English is spoken in the home for the required state assessment.

STEP 3

Enjoy a special moment with your child with a special photo opportunity for their Kindergarten Signing Day.

STEP 4

Receive an email from the Enrollment Staff regarding the school assignment and your Parent Portal Activation Code.

STEP 5

Contact child's school for start date, teacher assignment and other important information.

If you are new to Valley View School District, please click here to start your New Student Enrollment Application. Once your application is received by the VVSD Enrollment Office, you will be contacted to schedule an in-person appointment to complete enrollment.  

If you have current students in Valley View, simply log into your Infinite Campus Parent Portal to enroll your new student. Your current information is already in the system and it will reduce the number of steps you have to complete.  

If you have recently moved to the district, you must complete the online application before you register with the school. Department staff work weekdays 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., including the summer and breaks, except for legal holidays.  You can use the "School Address Look-up" key on the left to find out if your address is assigned to our district and the assigned school for your children. 

Online Enrollment for the current school year is available for any new or returning student transferring from a public, private school or home school and for students who have never enrolled in a public school that live within VVSD boundaries. 

If your child attends another public school and will be transferring next fall, you will need to wait until they finish the current school year before enrolling, but please do so as soon as they are finished.  Do not wait until August.

If your child is transferring from a private school for next fall, fill out the application now but you will be required to complete annual Registration if it is submitted before the first week of May.

Online Enrollment Application for New Students

If you already have students enrolled in Valley View Schools, you may enroll a new student by logging into your Parent Portal.

The following items must be presented in order to enroll a new student:

1. Certified Birth Certificate
   Please provide the Official Certified Birth Certificate with raised seal issued by the county/country in which the student was born. We do not accept the decorative footprint hospital certificates or baptismal certificates. If foreign born, a child’s passport is acceptable.
    
2. Photo I.D. of Person Enrolling the Student (or Valid Passport) with current address.
    
3. Illinois State Transfer Form/Withdrawal Form
   (Not needed if enrolling in Kindergarten for the first time.)
   Public schools in the State of Illinois will provide the Illinois State Transfer Form (ISBE 33-78) to the parent at the time of withdrawal or directly to VVSD (fax 815-886-7820) stating that the student is in good standing at the time of the transfer. If moving from out of state, please provide name and phone number of last school of attendance for the child. Transcripts are required for high school students before they can start school.
    
4. Two (2) Proofs of Residency with Parent/Guardian name and current address
   Category A: (One Item Required)
   - Recent Property Tax Bill
   - Lease (signed by both parties & showing date of occupancy)
   - Property Deed
   - Current Assessment Notice
   - Mortgage Statement (less than 30 days old)
   - Military Housing Letter
   
   Category B: (One Item Required/less than 30 days old)
   - Utility Bill (gas, electric or water)
   - Telephone Bill (hard copy)
   - Cable Bill
   - Homeowner/Renter Insurance Statement
   - Photo I.D. with current address (Driver’s license or from Foreign Consulate)
   - Letter or Document from a Federal/State Agency
   - Paycheck Stub
   - Credit Card Statement
   - Receipt for moving van rental
    
5. Any Existing Legal Documents if applicable
   Custody Paper, Divorce Decree, Guardianship, Order of Protection, etc. If there are any legal documents pertaining to the custody of the student, you must provide a copy of the documentation. Foster child – birth certificate or medical card plus the DCFS form IL 418-906
    
6. Most Recent IEP if applicable
   If the student is receiving special education services, you must provide a copy of the most recent IEP in order to set up appropriate placement.

NOTE: If you live with another family, the Homeowner/ Renter will need to come with you and provide documents listed in step 4. The parent/ guardian must provide one document from Category B and a photo ID with current address updated within time of the move. The district residency affidavit must be signed by both parties. If the affidavit is signed outside the district office, it must be notarized.

All address changes (or guardianship changes) need to be completed with the Enrollment Department at the Administration Building, not at the school. If your child is currently enrolled in our District and you have moved within our District, please call us at 815-886-2700 to make an appointment. You will need two proofs of residency (1st proof is a current mortgage statement or signed lease; 2nd proof is a utility bill or a piece of business mail dated within the last 30 days) and parent photo identification. Any questions, please call first. 

If you have moved out of the district, please contact the school to withdraw your child. Proof of residency for an address change is the same as new enrollment.  If the District has received returned mail for your family, you will be required to show two proofs of residency to continue enrollment within our schools.

Annual Residency Verification is to be completed with the school when you complete registration.  If you did not receive a registration packet, please call the school to check on the reason first and then email the Enrollment Department at the Administration Center with your two proofs of address.

Any homeless child shall be immediately admitted, even if the child or child's parent/guardian is unable to produce records normally required to establish residency. Board Policy 6:140, Education of Homeless Children, and its implementing administrative procedure, govern the enrollment of homeless children.  If you find yourself between homes, please return to the Enrollment homepage and begin the application for a new student.  Please mark "Other" for the type of residence.  You do not need to upload residency documents during the application process.  Once we receive your application, a member from the Enrollment Staff will discuss your individual situation.  If you already have children enrolled, please call your child's school and ask to speak to the McKinney Vento Liaison in the building.

How to Request a Transcript

• If you graduated in 2011 or before, your transcripts and immunizations can be retrieved from the District’s Enrollment Office. Click on the following link: Request Form .
• If you graduated in 2012 or after, then you must request the transcript through Parchment. Click on the following link:  https://www.parchment.com/ to connect to Parchment and then type in the name of your high school.  This is for your transcript ONLY.
• If the last school you attended was a middle school or elementary school and you left less than 5 years ago, please call the school for all records, including special education.
• If the last school you attended was a middle school or elementary school and you left more than 5 years ago, please click on the request below.
• If you need immunization or any other permanent records, please click on the link below to request them from the District office if you left our district more than 5 years ago. Otherwise, please call the school you last attended.
• Schools do not keep copies of diplomas; however, you are able to request a duplicate diploma. Contact your high school for more information.

There is no charge for Enrollment Staff to provide your transcript.  If there are any unpaid school fees, those need to be paid. We can provide a sealed copy of your transcript for submission to a school or job prospect after receiving your signed request.  You can receive your transcript in person by coming to the Enrollment Office at the Administration Center, after faxing or emailing your request to us. We can also mail your transcript to you after we receive your written request. 

Permanent Records are kept for 60 years after a student leaves the school district.  These records include basic identifying information, academic transcripts, graduation date,  attendance, health records (defined as those medical documents necessary for enrollment and proof of required exams), high school standardized tests and release of records permanent record information.

After 5 years of leaving the district, temporary records are destroyed after approval from the state has been granted.  Temporary records include: standardized tests for grades K-8, DCFS paperwork, health related information other than those needed for enrollment, accident records, home language survey, special education, records release for temporary records. NOTIFICATION:  Temporary records are destroyed after 5 years of leaving our school district.
