On behalf of the entire staff at Irene King Elementary School, we are happy to welcome you to the 2019-2020 school year. We are very excited about the upcoming school year and the new endeavors we will be taking on as a school community.
This year we will be implementing an approach to meet not only the academic needs of our students, but also the social emotional needs. Responsive classrooms are a way of teaching that emphasizes social, emotional and academic growth in a strong and safe school community. The goal is to increase social skills along with academic engagement in a positive and supportive atmosphere. Each day every classroom will engage in a 20 minute morning meeting. These meetings will have a focus on classroom climate and classroom expectations for both behavior and academics, and will allow all students to gain a sense of ownership within their classroom. During curriculum night in September you will hear more detailed information about responsive classrooms. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher, myself or Dr. Aguliar with any questions.
We look forward to developing a collaborative partnership with you to ensure that all children grow academically, socially and emotionally. As partners in your child’s education, we all share the responsibility for the success of all the children in our school community. We will do our very best to support you and your child as we take this journey together. We ask that you support your child in the following ways:
- Be sure that your child attends school daily and arrives on time, ready for the learning experiences that we will provide.
- Encourage your child to be an active participant in their learning; asks questions, sets goals, takes academic risks.
- Ask your child about his/her school day.
- Volunteer in your child’s classroom.
Please do not hesitate to reach out to us when you have a question. In order for our partnership to be successful, we all need to work together to provide the best learning environment possible. It is a privilege to be a part of your child’s education and we thank you for allowing us to be a part of your family. We also encourage you to be an active partner in the school community.
We hope to see everyone at the “Sneak Peek” on August 13th from 3:00-4:00pm. At this time you and your child will have the opportunity to drop off school supplies and meet your child’s teacher.
We look forward to seeing everyone on July 31 at registration.
