Degrees and Certifications:

Ms. Loretta Furtute

Welcome back to a unique learning year!   I’m very proud to start my 4th year as Principal at Kenneth L. Hermansen.  I have worked in Valley View School District for 15 years as a Middle School Language Arts Teacher at Brooks Middle School, a Professional Development Coordinator at District Office,  Assistant Principal at Brooks Middle School and currently, Principal at Hermansen.  Prior to working in VVSD, I was a 3rd grade and gifted education teacher in District 122 for 4 years.  I have a BA in elementary education with a minor in philosophy from Lewis University, a Masters in reading and literacy and a Masters in administration and leadership from Benedictine University.

Education is my second career.  In my previous life, I worked for the United States Post Office for 14 years as a clerk, mail handler and mail carrier.   I have two beautiful daughters and six grandchildren who live in Indiana.  I love to travel, especially with my family,  to read anything non-fiction/historical,  dinner and laughs with my friends, dancing, and most kinds of music and art.  I am very passionate about  racial and social justice, and equality for disenfranchised students and their families.  I am currently working on my  Doctorate at Aurora University, enjoy  long walks, riding my bike and listening to podcasts.
