Ms. Sally Green
Hello Young Scholars and Parents!
I am thrilled to be your language arts teacher this year. My parents were both teachers so it's in my blood, and I have a passion to live the idea that the strength of our democracy depends on strong public schools. I came to BMS one year after it opened in 2004. I started teaching honors classes three years later and have been doing it ever since. I sit on the VVSD District Langauge Arts Committee and work closely with Rachel Schlechter, the Director of Curriculum and Instruction for 6-12 LA and Social Studies. This year I became a Certified Teacher Evaluator in Illinois, and also work with teachers at BMS as a Reflective Teacher Coach. Outside of school, I have two sons in their twenties, am a Mindfulness Practioner and TED Talk junkie. I love Spoken Word Poetry, have self-published a short book and love to be just about anywhere in my kayak.
I firmly believe that reading is each individual's key to unlock the world, and I will work hard to encourage your reading habits. I have long been a proponent of a workshop environment in both reading and writing at the middle level, and this year our curriculum supports the workshop format more than ever before. We have a skill mastery focus and will work hard on the skills outlined in the 8th Grade Common Core State Standards for ELA. I am also completely dedicated to getting to know you! The relationship we develop supports your ability to feel comfortable and take the academic risks required for authentic learning.
Welcome to class! We will work hard everyday so you can improve your skills and learn to LOVE learning. The world is ours to explore, and by reading and writing to learn, shared inquiry and rich organized discussion, there is no limit to what we can accomplish!
