Mr. Tristan Harter
Welcome! I'm Tristan Harter, School Psychologist at Jane Addams Middle School.
I often describe my job, which is not the easiest to explain, as helping every student be in the best possible position to succeed. That could entail coordinating, tracking, and occasionally delivering academic or social-emotional supports. It could be conducting evaluations for services. It could be pushing into classrooms and interacting with the students. You name it, I've probably done it in the name of helping our students. My very favorite part of working in a school is being part of the school, so I always give my best effort to connect with every student.
I'm the school's Gender Support Liason as well as faculty co-sponsor for Genders and Sexualities Alliance (GSA). If you want to collaborate on how we can support your student's gender expression and/or sexual identity, we would love to work with you!
This is my 12th year as a school psychologist. I used to work in journalism, editing, and publishing and continue to do writing projects here and there. I live on the North Side of Chicago, so my commute feels like a second job in itself. I'm originally from Maryland in the Washington, DC suburbs, and will never miss an opportunity to mention that my beloved Washington Capitals won the Stanley Cup in 2018.
In addition to my role as school psychologist, I also have the opportunity to provide some ELA support by pushing into 1st Block of 7th grade Honors ELA and also running an ELA group during WIN.
After school, I'm the faculty co-sponsor of the Genders and Sexualities Alliance.
Outside of school, I love volunteering at PAWS Chicago (www.pawschicago.org). Please come visit us or your local shelter and make a new friend!
