Ms. Diane Kowalski

Welcome to 1st Grade!  My name is Diane Kowalski and I am going to be one of your child’s teachers this year.  I am so excited that your child is going to be in my class.  I have so many fun learning activities that we are going to do to get to know each other this week.  We will have a lot of fun and ease back into school!

Let me first start by sharing some professional information about myself.  This is my 21st year as a teacher.  I have a wide range of teaching experiences.  I have taught 7th and 8th grade, 2nd grade, 4th grade and I also taught in a private, therapeutic day school for children with Autism and behavioral/emotional issues.  I also worked as a Reading Specialist in the Valley View School District for about 6 years. I have to say out of all the grades that I have taught 1st grade is the BEST!!!

I am a graduate of Southern Illinois University-Carbondale with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education.  I have a master’s degree from National Louis University in Reading and I have an endorsement in ESL or English as a Second Language from Concordia University Chicago.  I am currently working on an endorsement for special education as a LBS1 (Learning Behavioral Specialist).  I consider myself a lifelong learner.

On a personal note, I have 2 awesome sons.  My oldest is 22 and my youngest is 20. I was a stay at home mom for about 8 years before returning back to the classroom.  That was the hardest job ever!! My sons are both in school studying the Culinary Arts.  They love to cook and I love to eat!  I have no problem trying out the recipes that they make. I also have a super cute and energetic Beagle named Sadie.  I like to share funny stories with my class on the crazy things she does.  I love spending my free time taking long walks and enjoying nature.

First grade is an exciting time as children embark on a new adventure in learning.  I look forward to a very exciting, productive and different school year.  I will strive each day to make learning a fun and enriching process for your child.  I appreciate all the hard work that you do as parents.  I believe that you and I are a team working together to help your child develop emotionally and academically.  You are the most important person in your child’s life and you are also a teacher in your child’s life.  I know that if we work together and communicate, your child will have a very successful year!  PLEASE feel free to contact me with ANY questions or concerns you have during the year.  Thank you and I am excited to meet you all very soon.

I am excited about this year and I know that we will have a fantastic year! If you have any questions or concerns please feel to contact me at
