Mr. Kwynn Olson

Social Studies Department Chair

AP United States Government & Politics Teacher

Welcome to AP United States Government and Politics, where we strive to understand why and how the federal government operates! I have taught at Bolingbrook High School since 2004. I earned both my bachelor's degree in social studies and master's degree in educational leadership from Bradley University. Since starting at Bolingbrook High School, I have also taught AP United States History, Modern World History, and Honors Modern World History. Though social studies is my first love, I am also certified to teach high school mathematics and science. Outside of class, I am also currently the Head Scholastic Bowl Coach and the Social Studies Department Chair.

When I am not at school, I am normally spending time with my wife, 2 children, and our miniature dachshund. We enjoy going to the Brookfield Zoo, the Morton Arboretum, and on various other small summer adventures. On top of that, I am a political junkie (election days are treated like Super Bowls in my house), an avid reader of historical non-fiction and sci-fi novels, and a die-hard Cubs fan.

Communication with Parents and Students: Google Classroom and Remind

Google Classroom will be used to both disseminate information and collect homework. Students can go to classroom.google.com and log-in using their Valley View Google account to view specific classroom content. Students will be assigned a classroom code, which is needed to join the correct class.

Remind.com will also be used to communicate with parents and students. This is an app that allows me to send reminders to students about classroom projects and assignments. It is also a way for parents to remain in contact with me as well. Instructions for joining Remind are found on the class's Google Classroom.
