Mrs. Angela Parent

My name is Angela Parent.  Let me tell you a little bit about myself.  I received my undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2003.  Immediately after graduation, I accepted a job teaching a fourth and fifth grade split classroom in the Chicago Public Schools.  I taught for one year in CPS and then moved to the suburbs where I have been teaching 2nd grade for the last 12 years.  My first year teaching second grade, I yearned to become a better reading teacher.  I felt that there was so much more for me to learn and then utilize in the classroom.  In the spring of 2005 I enrolled at University of Saint Francis and received my Masters in Reading in 2008.  I currently have my reading specialist endorsement.  I utilize this degree everyday with my second graders.

Second grade is truly where my heart is.   While each year my classroom has many goals, my goal as a teacher is to support an environment that is literacy rich, safe, flexible, and compassionate.  Each year my students and I take on a real world challenge.  I tell that them that it doesn’t matter how old you are, how tall you are, where you live, but that everyone can make a positive difference in the world around them.  One year we sold red and blue ribbons for victims of the Haiti earthquake.  This year my kids sold Valentine's Grams and Boo Grams to help The American Diabetes Association and Lurie's Childrens Hospital.

After school I keep busy with my three children.  We have two lab dogs, and “Pete” the cat.  I am very blessed to live in this zoo I call home with my kids, husband, and animals.
