Mrs. Katie Thomas

Hello, my name is Katie Rios Thomas and I am the LMC director at BJ Ward.  I started my career at Ward in 2006 as a 2nd grade teacher, then moved to the library position in 2007.

Each and every day in our library is an adventure, I am privileged to get to work with each and every one of our K to 5th grade students every week.  It is my passion to inspire our students to be lifelong learners and readers.  The three areas of focus for the library curriculum are literature appreciation, information and technology skills, and lifelong learner skills.

The best part of working in our library is enabling our students to explore their own interests and passions.  From exploring the science behind why the Titanic sunk to researching how to stop their dogs from chewing on the furniture, our students unique book requests never cease to amaze me.

I am also the building technology coach, webmaster, union rep and sponsor of our Battle of the Books Competition.

In my personal life, I enjoy spending time with my husband and two children.  We enjoy visiting local museums, zoos, and of course our public library!
