Dear Dr. James Mitchem Early Childhood Families:
My name is Jacqueline Brown, and I have the privilege to serve as your principal. We are so honored to have your family, as a part of our family. At Dr. James Mitchem Early Childhood Center, we are “Soaring Into the Future With Our Youngest Learners.” The 2020/2021 school year will be a very exciting year. It is the first school year with our new name, Dr. James Mitchem Early Childhood Center (JMECC), and a new mascot, the Eagle. It has been deservingly renamed in recognition of all the great achievements and dedication of retired superintendent, Dr. James Mitchem. Dr. Mitchem is also an avid supporter of early childhood education.
While we continue to nurture the whole child, at this age the social emotional development is especially essential for establishing foundational skills. This will be even more crucial this school year. We understand that students will be coming to us this year under the most challenging and unprecedented circumstances ever seen in most of our lifetimes. COVID-19, social injustice, and racism awareness are all factors that have greatly impacted our children and families. Additionally, we ended our 2019/2020 school year in providing education and instruction remotely. Cultivating our student’s social emotional development will continue to be a primary focus at JMECC.
We are here to support your child and our families. All measures possible will be taken to provide a safe learning environment with ongoing sanitation of learning materials. Social distancing will be maintained as much as possible given the developmental levels of our preschoolers.
We are certainly all in this together. We thank you for the opportunity to allow us to be a part of the growth and development of your child. Please remember that at JMECC, we are 100% students, 100% of the time.
