Degrees and Certifications:

Ms. Sims

Graduate of Eastern Illinois University, Ms. Sims obtained her degree as a Secondary High School English Teacher. Post-graduation, she set out with the goal of diversifying her teacher skillset, traveling, and learning a second language.

She worked as a one-on-one teacher assistant and classroom substitute for elementary and high school students with autism while awaiting departure for service in the Peace Corps. For two years and three months, Ms. Sims lived and worked in Ambato, Ecuador as a Peace Corps Volunteer and taught English as a Foreign Language at public high school, Luis A. Martinez. During her service, Ms. Sims trained teachers across the country in best practices, developed curriculum, and organized city-wide English clubs and camps for high school students. In her free time, Ms. Sims enjoyed her role as editor-in-chief of the official Peace Corps Ecuador Volunteer magazine almost as much as she enjoyed salsa dancing.

Returning stateside in late April, Ms. Sims was elated to be hired at both Romeoville and Bolingbrook High School as an ESL teacher. She teaches first and second hour at RHS, then travels to BHS, where she spends the remainder of the afternoon teaching ESL classes and coaching freshman boys soccer. She feels incredibly proud to work with bilingual students on a day-to-day basis.

Ms. Sims loves reading, writing, snowboarding, hiking, and dancing. She is a published creative non-fiction writer and poet and is the proud owner of a siberian husky named Ollie.
