Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Catherine Kopka
I have been teaching English Language Arts for 13 years. I am so excited to be joining JJL and the Lukancic Flames! I went to Illinois State University for my Bachelor’s Degree, and Concordia University for my Master’s Degree. I’ll also be completing my ESL endorsement by the end of this school year. I have two daughters, Elizabeth and Isabelle, who go to Tibbott Elementary in Bolingbrook, and I’m happily married for 11 years, to my husband Nick. We live in Bolingbrook, so I'm sure I will be seeing you around the neighborhood. I believe it is essential for students to have balance of reading, writing, speaking, and listening activities, with a variety of instructional strategies, to meet their needs and district expectations, using authentic literature and a variety of text types. To meet the needs of every learner, I scaffold student learning, with the rigorous curriculum, at their level. New this year, flexible seating! I’m a firm believer in keeping the focus on what’s really important: the students. Our classroom environment should be conducive to open collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking. I’ve found that some of the immediate benefits of flexible seating include using up excess energy, improving metabolism, increased motivation and engagement, creating a better oxygen flow to the brain.
