Mrs. Lori Moriarty
I currently teach seventh grade mathematics at Brooks Middle School. Although I am new to Valley View School District, I bring a wealth of teaching experience to my present position. Prior to teaching at Brooks, I taught junior high Math and Language Arts for five years at St. Dominic School in Bolingbrook. Before teaching at St. Dominic School, I worked as an actuary and taught high school math. As a Teach for America teacher in Booker T. Washington High School in New Orleans, LA, I came to appreciate the educational opportunity gap and ever since have been working in one way or another to close that gap.
My husband Dan and I have four children, the youngest of whom is a senior in high school. My greatest pleasure is when all four children are all under the same roof at one time, and I can cook (or order) their favorite meals. Three of my children have attended or are attending the University of Alabama, and so football is a big deal in our home these days (Roll Tide!). My passions include running, writing, traveling, and learning (most recently, I learned to cook paella). I am also passionate about teaching. As I watched my children go through school, I wished most of all for them to truly love learning, and now as I watch them choosing professions, I wish them to be as passionate about their choices as I am about teaching. My wishes for my students are the same, and it is a privilege to help students develop the skills needed for a successful and fulfilling life.
