Winter Break Message from VVSD Superintendent Dr. Keith Wood

The end of the calendar year is always a time of reflection, hope, and looking forward to a fresh beginning.

Before we look forward, I want to take a brief moment to look back and thank our students, parents, staff members, and community as a whole for the part they play in working together to create the outstanding learning and working environment in our schools.

What occurs in our classrooms for Every Learner, Every Day is an example of the big things that can be accomplished when everyone does their share of the work.

This welcome and well-earned respite also gives everyone a chance to reflect on where we can improve and how we can make the second half of the 2025-26 school year even better.

On a community note, we have all noticed winter weather made an early appearance right after Thanksgiving. It appears we are in for a rather long winter as 2025 changes to 2026. In the spirit of the holiday season, we need to make sure we look out for each other this winter. Small things make a big difference, such as checking in on the elderly, clearing snow from the sidewalks and driveways of neighbors who aren’t able to get outside, and simply being a little more patient and forgiving on the roads, all add up to making our community a kinder place.

Enjoy the holiday season, recharge, and be ready for when our students and staff return in the new year. The first day back for teachers is Monday, January 5 and classes resume for students on Tuesday, January 6.

With Immense Gratitude,

Dr. Keith Wood
