Bolingbrook HS AFJROTC Earns Highest Rating in Unit Assessment

Bolingbrook HS AFJROTC

The distinguished cadets and instructors of Air Force Junior ROTC IL-091 at Bolingbrook HS earned an overall unit assessment score of Exceeds Standards during their unit evaluation on Fri. April 22. This rating is the highest rating attainable.

The unit’s instructor, Master Sergeant Tim Sinnaeve (Ret.), has created a dynamic and supportive learning environment, coupled with an excellent community outreach program. He has provided outstanding leadership in administering this cadet-centered citizenship and leadership program.

Bolingbrook HS Raider Cadets take great pride in leading and accomplishing their unit goals for their unit which was founded in 1975. The unit’s cadet leaders have raised the standard for the unit, by planning, organizing, and executing eleven co-curricular activities after school.  These activities include: four STEM-based leadership development activities, such as Rocketry and Model Aircraft Clubs, an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Club, and an Academic Bowl team.

Of special note is the unit’s Kitty Hawk Air Society, which is AFJROTC’s cadet academic honor society. This team of 53 cadets is highly active, providing tutoring to the entire school to promote academic excellence, as well as serving their community and school through food drives, hygiene drives, blood drives, reading to kids, and providing cadet corps morale events.

Kitty Hawk cadets complete 69% of the unit’s community service hours, which surpassed 1900 hours the recently completed academic school year. Because of their accomplishments, Bolingbrook HS Raider Cadets have been recommended for the top AFJROTC unit-level award of Distinguished Unit with Merit for the 2021-22 Academic Year.
