VVSD Class of ‘22 Spotlight- Maya Ramos, Romeoville HS

Maya Ramos

Maya Ramos will attend Northwestern University beginning next fall.  She will study neuroscience, but she is keeping an open mind as to her plans for the future.  The reason Maya is keeping an open mind is because one of the things she learned at Romeoville HS, is that life offers us no perfect answers.  We must be flexible for what the future holds.

If there is anything the members of the Class of 2022 learned better than any class before them, it is the future can contain many unanticipated twists and turns

VVSD Class of ‘22 Spotlight- Lizeth Garcia-Perez, Bolingbrook HS

Lizeth Perez Garcia

Lizeth Garcia-Perez will begin classes at Northwestern University next August and will study biology with the intention of becoming a physician’s assistant.  Lizeth is interested in becoming a medical professional so that she can work directly to alleviate inequities in health care that she has observed.

The experience of seeing the need for improvements in the American health care system is what prompted her interest in studying biology.

VVSD Free Summer Meals Program for Kids 18 and Under

VVSD Nutrition Services

As part of VVSD’s efforts to serve our community and to ensure kids have access to healthy meals during the summer months, VVSD Nutrition Services is pleased to announce the Summer Meals program. All kids 18 years old and under can receive meals free of charge, no registration needed, at many sites throughout the community.

The summer months are already one of the hungriest times of year for many kids. The need will be even greater this summer as the nation continues to grapple with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Due to changes in the program made at the federal level, we are no longer able to offer Grab n’ Go meals or pickup of meals by parents. We are dedicated to still serving children and the community, and meals are available to all kids 18 years old or younger.

The Summer Meals program is funded by the US Department of Agriculture and conducted by school districts and local organizations at sites throughout the community. Families can text “FOOD” or “COMIDA” to 304-304 and type in a zip code to find nearby summer meals sites, along with operating days and times. No application, registration or proof of residency or citizenship is required at sites.

Visit to learn more. Click Here for locations and times for the VVSD Summer Meals program.
