End of School Year Message from Supt. Rachel Kinder to VVSD Families
Good Evening, Valley View Families and Community,

On the eve of the final day of school for the 2022-23 school year, we want to share our gratitude with each of you for playing such an important role with your child(ren) in our mission to ensure that Every Learner develops, grows and achieves in VVSD and in life after graduation.
If you attended any of our high school graduations, promotion ceremonies, exit ceremonies, or other traditional events that mark the end of the school year, you probably noticed that joyous look of “I made it!” on the faces of our learners. We’ll see similar looks tomorrow afternoon when we “clap out” our 5th graders and say goodbye to our kids for the summer.
It is more accurate to say, “We made it!” because the strength of our partnership and collective efforts is what helps us navigate the many challenges that come our way and what makes such an impactful difference for each learner.
When thinking about our graduating Class of 2023, one can’t help but to think of the difficult road this year’s graduates traveled over the last four years. In fact, all the student speeches at this week’s graduation ceremonies reflected upon the challenges of the COVID era. Those speeches also reflected on the individual traits of resilience, adaptability, and willingness to accept challenges. The student speakers also emphasized the importance of inclusion, empathy, optimism, hope, and most important of all, simply being kind to each other. We could all benefit from listening closely to the wise words of our youth. Hearing their voices is certainly what gives me the most hope and optimism for our future.
As we reflect on the school year and finalize planning for the 2023-24 school year, we have so much to celebrate and many opportunities for improvement and growth. Continuously improving together for Every Learner, guided by the VVSD Portrait of a Learner and Strategic Plan, is our continued commitment as we look forward to the new school year. But first, let us celebrate the close of the 2022-23 school year, enjoy fun and learning this summer, and let kindness spread throughout our community.

En la víspera del último día de clases del año escolar 2022-23, queremos compartir nuestro agradecimiento a cada uno de ustedes por desempeñar un papel tan importante con su(s) hijo(s) en nuestra misión de garantizar que cada alumno se desarrolle, crezca y tenga éxito en VVSD y en la vida después de graduarse.
Si asististe a alguna de nuestras graduaciones de la escuela preparatoria, ceremonias de promoción, ceremonias de salida u otros eventos tradicionales que marcan el final del año escolar, probablemente ha notado esa mirada alegre de “¡Lo logré!”, en los rostros de nuestros alumnos. Veremos miradas similares mañana por la tarde, cuando “aplaudamos” a nuestros alumnos de 5° grado y nos despidamos de nuestros alumnos por el verano.
Es más exacto decir: “¡Lo logramos!”. Porque la fuerza de nuestra asociación y esfuerzos colectivos es lo que nos ayuda a navegar los muchos desafíos que se nos presentan y lo que marca una diferencia tan impactante para cada alumno.
Al pensar en nuestra clase del año 2023 que se gradúa, uno no puede evitar pensar en el difícil camino que los graduados de este año recorrieron durante los últimos cuatro años. De hecho, todos los discursos de los alumnos en las ceremonias de graduación de esta semana reflejaron los desafíos de la era COVID. Esos discursos también reflexionaron sobre los rasgos individuales de resiliencia, adaptabilidad y disposición para aceptar desafíos. Los alumnos oradores también enfatizaron la importancia de la inclusión, la empatía, el optimismo, la esperanza y, lo más importante de todo, simplemente ser amables unos con otros. Todos podríamos beneficiarnos de escuchar atentamente las sabias palabras de nuestra juventud. Escuchar sus voces es ciertamente lo que me da más esperanza y optimismo para nuestro futuro.
Mientras reflexionamos sobre este año escolar y finalizamos la planificación para el año escolar 2023-24, tenemos mucho que celebrar y muchas oportunidades para mejorar y crecer. Mejorar continuamente juntos para cada alumno, guiados por el Retrato de un Alumno y el Plan estratégico de VVSD, es nuestro compromiso continuo mientras esperamos el nuevo año escolar. Pero primero, celebremos el cierre del año escolar 2022-23, disfrutemos de la diversión y el aprendizaje este verano, y dejemos que la amabilidad se extienda por toda nuestra comunidad.
