Reading Laboratory at B.J.Ward Elementary Dedicated in Memory of Dr. Meda Thompson
During her tenure in VVSD, Dr. Meda Thompson emphasized the biggest factor to improve student learning and achievement is to increase the professional skills of teachers. It is only fitting that the professional development laboratory at B.J. Ward Elementary School is now named in memory of Dr. Thompson.
Dr. Thompson came to VVSD in 1999 to serve as director of curriculum before becoming a principal in 2003. She worked as principal at B.J. Ward Elementary until she retired in 2010. Her passion for improving teaching in the classroom influenced numerous members of the VVSD staff who continue to educate the students of the community, including Superintendent of Schools Dr. James Mitchem and Asst. Supt. for Human Resources Dr. Judie Nash.
